The Versa Flow water filter is one of the lightest and most convenient personal water filters on the market. Weighing in at only 2 ounces you don’t have to worry about adding extra weight to your pack or try to find a dedicated spot for it. It will fit virtually anywhere. This water filter is perfect for backpacking, hiking, camping, travel, and emergency preparedness.

Although it is lightweight, it is heavy in features. Every filter is built to exacting standards and exceeds EPA standards for filtration. The Versa Flow has many tiny tubes called hollow fiber. Hollow fiber works through size exclusion. Meaning the hollow fiber tubes have thousands of tiny holes (0.1 microns) that block 99.999999% of harmful bacteria, and 99.999999% of Giardia, E. coli, protozoan cysts and Cryptosporidium. All of these organisms are too large to fit through the 0.1 micron holes. Some manufacturers filter the water through the core of the hollow fiber tubes, but this restricts water flow because only so much water can fit through the core opening. We filter water through the outside of the tubes by bending the hollow fiber. This dramatically increases the surface area and flow rate of the filter while protecting the filter integrity itself. If the core of the tubes become clogged from sediment on the competitors filter you can not use the filter. The Versa Flow allows you to be able to backflush the filter, clearing out all of the particulate and increasing the lifespan of the filter. If you consistently backflush the filter you can use it almost indefinitely. This means no additional filters, cartridges, pumps, iodine drops, or batteries to ever buy again.

The Activated Carbon module is made up of mixture of activated carbon and ion-exchange microbeads. Activated carbon adsorbs chemicals and heavy metals, and improves the taste and color of the contaminated water. The ion-exchange microbeads are an organic polymer substrate. These beads are porous, providing a large surface area for removing pollution, poisonous, and heavy metal iron from the water. The ion-exchange replaces these negative ions with innocuous ions, such as sodium and potassium.

Additionally, this combination will remove unhealthy organic compounds such as chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, gasoline, and diesel. The adsorption of these various compounds improves the taste and the color of water transforming it into the perfect way to refresh yourself while camping, traveling, or in an emergency situation.

    Water taste...

Posted by Ed on Dec 10th 2021

Haven't used mine yet. I bought this because I have used a friends and thought the water tasted better through it. Will be ready for spring this year. Also sent another to cousin now biking/hiking in Patagonia.

I really like the Versa Flow, especially with the carbon filter unit. They are the basis for my gravity filter systems (for myself and 4 adult children). I also use the carbon filter unit with my Sawyer Taps, which I use for attachment to kitchen faucets or outdoor hoses. In addition, I use Sidekicks for each person in the family (with additional carbon filters). All in all, this is the best overall system I have found (I've been working on this for years). Now to get a distiller... (I live in Hawaii and we're surrounded by salt water).

    Much better than the...

I ditched the "S@wy3r" earlier this year because the filter would clog even in the clearest of water and was too much of a PITA to backflush. I used this on my most recent JMT trip with a friend, July 2020. My friends "Squeeze" filter clogged completely and couldn't be cleared, then his backup "Squeeze" filter started to clog and he couldn't backflush it; the filter would barely drip out water. This was the same reason I ditched S@wy3r and went with the HydroBlu VersaFlow. Now, I use and backflush my VersaFlow filter with the greatest of ease. My friend is now a believer and is ditching the Squeeze and getting the VersaFlow for our Mt. Whitney hike next month.

    Prepping...just in case.

Posted by Kim Kirk on Jun 19th 2020

We purchased this water filter just in case things really get out of control. We have access to a water source on our property and wanted to make sure that we have clean water. We hope to never have to use this but are glad that we made the purchase.

I first saw the VersaFlow with Activated Carbon Filter being used by Zachery Fowler on one of his survival challenge Videos. I was so intreaged by it that I had to have one. But everyone was sold out. About a month later they were back in stock and I ordered two of them. They are perfect in my opinion! 10 Liters is about the most water weight you want to carry. I like how it hangs by the handle off the ground on a tree stub or however you want to hang it. Then you can get the filtered water below it in a cup, boiling pot, or whatever. It does an excellent job filtering the water. I love it and recommend it for survival situations or camping by a stream even.
