Does HydroBlu offer a warranty?

HydroBlu extends a limited lifetime warranty that our products are fully warranted to the original owner, with proof of purchase, against manufacturer's defects for the lifetime of the product when the product is used for the purpose intended, under normal conditions, and does not apply to damages caused by typical wear and tear over time, the natural breakdown of modules, the materials over extended time and use, accident, unreasonable use, improper care, modifications, alterations or negligence. Lifetime is defined as the expected life of the product, not the user's lifetime.

This warranty only applies to the original purchaser of the product, and only to products purchased and used in the United States of America. Removal or defacing of brand labels voids warranty. Products covered under our warranty will be repaired or replaced at our discretion, free of charge. In the event that the style being returned is no longer available for exchange, a product of equal value may be ordered. Repairs not covered under the warranty will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and services provided will be at the expense of the customer at a reasonable charge. Charge(s) will be determined at the time product is evaluated. We will not repair product requiring a fee unless approved. Factory 2nd's are not covered under the warranty. They are sold as-is and all sales are final. Do HydroBlu water filters remove chemicals and heavy metals from water?

Yes. All HydrBlu water filters that use Activated Carbon with Ion-Exchange microbeads will remove iron, lead, diesel fuel and much more. The activated charcoal removes 99.999% of all chemicals and heavy metals from your water. The Sidekick 3-Stage Straw Filter, Clear Flow Water bottle with Filter Combo, and Pressurized Jerry Can have activated carbon and will remove chemicals and heavy metals.

The Versa Flow and Go Flow do not remove chemicals or heavy metals. These water filters remove bacteria and waterborne parasites, not chemicals

Visit our Technology page to learn how the Activated Carbon and Ion-Exchange Microbeads remove chemicals and heavy metals.

Do HydroBlu water filters remove viruses?

Yes, but the Pressurized Jerry Can is our only filter that can remove viruses. The Virus Ultrafiltration Hollow Fiber Replacement Filter has a hollow fiber membrane of .02 microns which will remove 99.999% of viruses, bacteria, and protozoan cysts. The Sidekick, Versa Flow, Clear Flow, and Go Flow have a hollow fiber membrane of 0.1 microns which blocks 99.999% of all bacteria and protozoan cysts.

How do the HydroBlu filters work?

HydroBlu water filters use four main technolgies to provide clean water; Activated Carbon, Ultrafiltration Hollow Fiber Membrane, Ion-Exchange, and Pre-Filtration. For specific information on each of these technologies visit our Technology page, CLICK HERE.

The Sidekick Straw Filter is a 3-stage filter that uses a cotton pre-filter, an activated charcoal module, and hollow fiber membrane with a 0.1 micron pore size. The cotton pre-filter removes large sediments like sand and dirt from entering the other stages of the filter. The activated charcoal module removes chlorine, sediment, VOC’s, heavy metals, chemicals, negative taste and color from the water through a process adsorption. The pollutant molecules get trapped inside the pore structure of the charcoal. Not only will you have safe water with the Clear Flow filter, but you will also have great tasting water. The hollow fiber membrane has thousands of tiny little holes along the fiber. These holes allow water to pass through, but they block bacteria from getting through because the smallest bacteria is 1.0 micron small and cannot possibly fit through the 0.1 micron opening of the hollow fiber.

The Versa Flow filter uses a hollow fiber membrane with a 0.1 micron pore size. The hollow fiber membrane has thousands of tiny little holes along the fiber. These holes allow water to pass through, but they block bacteria from getting through because the smallest bacteria is 1.0 micron small and cannot possibly fit through the 0.1 micron opening of the hollow fiber. Neither filter has chemicals in the filter to remove contaminates and don’t require batteries or pumps to work.

The Clear Flow filter is a 2-stage filter that uses a hollow fiber membrane with a 0.1 micron pore size and an activated charcoal module. The hollow fiber membrane has thousands of tiny little holes along the fiber. These holes allow water to pass through, but they block bacteria from getting through because the smallest bacteria is 1.0 micron small and cannot possibly fit through the 0.1 micron opening of the hollow fiber.

The Go Flow uses the Versa Flow filter with the 0.1 micron pore size to remove 99.999% of bacteria and protazon cysts.

Finally, the Pressurized Jerry Can uses a simple hand pump to build pressure inside the Jerry Can that pushes unfiltered water through an activated carbon module and a hollow fiber membrane of 0.1 or 0.02 microns depending on which ultrafiltration membrane filter is used.

How long will the filters last?

The lifespan on each depends on which technology it uses and the severity of the water quality that it filters. Here are the expected lifespans of each filter:

Sidekick Straw Filter - Each straw comes with (2) activated carbon with pre-filter modules. Each module will filter 50 gallons of water make a total of 100 gallons. Additional replacement modules will be available for purchase soon. The hollow fiber membrane portion of will filter 10,000 gallons.

Versa Flow Filter -Will easily last up to 10,000 gallons or 37,800 liters if you take care of the filter by backflushing the contaminants from the filter.

Clear Flow Filter - Will last up to 396 gallons or 1,500 liters, but this depends on the severity of the water. Replacement filters will be able for purchase soon.

Go Flow Filter - The Go Flow uses the Versa Flow water filter so it will last up to 10,000 gallons or 37,800 liters if you take care of the filter by backflushing the contaminants from the filter.

Pressurized Jerry Can - The activated carbon module will last 250 gallons depending on the severity of water. Replacement modules are available. The Ultrafiltration Hollow Fiber Membranes will last 10,000 gallons as long as they are maintained by backflushing the contaminants from the filter.

What is the shelf life of the HydroBlu filters?

All HydroBlu filters have an indefinite shelf life if they remain sealed in their packaging. The Sidekick, Clear Flow, and Pressurized Jerry Can have activated carbon and once they are exposed to air they have a 2-year shelf life. The hollow fiber membranes are made of medical grade plastic and will last indefinitely on the shelf or until its usage capacity is met.

Can I backflush the HydroBlu filters?

Yes, you can backflush the Versa Flow and the Pressurized Jerry Can's Ultrafiterion filters. We recommend that you occasionally do this to increase the life of the filter. The Sidekick modules, Clear Flow filter, and Jerry Can Carbon modules cannot be backflushed.

Do I need to be worried about temperatures?

We recommend that you do not store the filters in temperatures over 110F. If you leave water in your filter in freezing temperatures you can damage the hollow fiber. We recommend keeping your filter inside your jacket and near your body if you are in freezing conditions.

Can I drink pool water with the HydroBlu filters?

Yes, you can drink pool water with any HydroBlu filter that uses activated carbon such as the Sidekick Straw Filter, the Clear Flow filter, or the Prssurized Jerry Can. The activated carbon removes chlorine and other chemicals from the water. The Versa Flow does not remove chemicals from the water and we recommend not drinking from a pool with this filter.

Can I drink sea water with the HydroBlu filters?

No. None of the HydroBlu water filters can remove salt from sea water and should not be used with ocean water.
